Tesla Model 3 low-voltage battery warning: what to do
Read the exact alert before acting. A routine replacement warning usually gives you time to schedule service; a shutdown warning requires you to pull over safely and request assistance.

What to do now
- Photograph the alert. Capture its full code and wording before dismissing it.
- Follow the message on the touchscreen. The urgency differs between alert codes.
- Keep access available. Do not leave essential belongings or a child or pet in a car that may lose electrical power.
- Schedule service in the Tesla app. Include the alert code, when it appeared and whether the car restarted normally.
- Avoid DIY replacement without the correct procedure. Battery type and access differ by vehicle configuration and build date.
If the car has no power
Tesla publishes separate jump-start procedures for low-voltage lead-acid and lithium-ion systems. Use the procedure for your exact vehicle. A jump source can provide temporary access or support, but it does not repair a degraded battery.
Questions owners often ask
Can I keep driving?
Only if the displayed alert says the vehicle is OK to drive. If the message says the vehicle is shutting down, pull over safely. If it warns that the car may not restart, drive only as needed to reach a safe location and arrange service.
Will charging the main battery fix it?
Not necessarily. The vehicle normally supports the low-voltage system from the high-voltage battery, but a degraded or unavailable low-voltage battery still requires diagnosis or replacement.
Can software updates wait?
For alert VCFRONT_a182, Tesla states that software updates will not complete until the low-voltage battery is replaced.
