Replacing the cabin filters in your Model 3
Plan the replacement, check the fasteners on your car, and keep Tesla’s illustrated procedure open while working.
When and what to replace
Tesla recommends replacement every two years outside China. The procedure replaces two stacked filters. Prepare compatible filters, a trim/clip tool, and the correct driver; the cover fastener varies by build.
The job at a glance
- Switch climate off. Move the right front seat back and remove its mat.
- Carefully release the footwell cover, supporting it while disconnecting its light and speaker. Remove the console’s right trim panel.
- Release the filter cover. If no cover exists, refit the trim and contact Tesla.
- Remove the upper filter, then lift out the lower one.
- Install the lower replacement, then the upper, with both airflow arrows pointing rearward.
- Fold tabs inward, refit the cover, reconnect wiring, and reinstall trim and mat. Tesla specifies 1.2 Nm for the cover screw. Reset the maintenance interval if available.

Before buying filters
Our suggested purchasing check: give the seller your model year and VIN, confirm fitment, and check whether the listing supplies one filter or a complete pair. We have not verified a particular aftermarket product on our project car, so this page does not recommend a brand or part number.
Record the work
Keep the replacement date, mileage, product reference, and receipt. A photograph of the old filters and the installed orientation can help document what was done. Do not photograph or handle components if doing so would interfere with safe work.
If you are unsure about the access or wiring, use this overview to discuss the job with a technician. It is a preparation guide, not a substitute for the full illustrated instructions.
